Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children (SPDC)
The Scholarship Programme for Diaspora is a scholarship scheme introduced by the Government of India in 2006-2007. It is awarded to the students who fall under the categories of PIOs (Persons of Indian Origin) and NRIs (Non-Resident Indians) of 66 countries to help them pursue undergraduate courses in Indian universities. The scheme is applicable for particular undergraduate courses (professional and non-professional courses), excluding medical and courses related to it. The scholarship covers admission fees, tuition fees and post-admission requirements.
The SPDC scheme is only for fresh-year students, i.e., students who have completed their 10+2 years of schooling and want to pursue their graduation in India. General eligibility criteria for the SPDC scheme include the following:
- Nationality: It is awarded to the students in 4 categories, including - Children of Persons of Indian Origin, Children of Non-Resident Indians, Children of Indian workers in ECR nations studying outside India and Children of Indian workers in ECR nations studying in India.
- Students from all these 4 categories must have passed classes 11th and 12th from abroad.
