About Us

Established in 1995, Prajyoti Niketan College is an Arts and Science (Aided ) College, affiliated to the University of Calicut. The College is part of the dream project of Dr Fr Harshajan Pazhayattil, the Founder Manager and Director of Prajyoti Niketan College. The Vision and Mission of the College revolves around the Wholistic Development of the students. The College offers five undergraduate courses and two post graduate courses. BSc Psychology,B Sc Computer Science, BSc Electronics, BCom, BA English are the undergraduate programmes. MSc Clinical Psychology and MSc Computer Science with Data Analytics are the PG Programmes offered here. Apart from imparting education, Prajyoti Niketan College stands for the upliftment of the students, staff and society in general. The College provides facilities which help to nurture students towards empowerment and gender sensitivity thereby inculcating self realisation leading to integrity towards family and society. Prajyoti Niketan College upholds the value of inclusiveness and tolerance towards all regional, communal, cultural, religious and linguistic environments. The college sensitizes the staff members and students about the need of communal and cultural harmony and promotes regional and linguistic diversities. Students from all religions, districts (from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragode) and communities are admitted to the UG and PG courses as part of inclusive nature. Area of Excellence

In Prajyoti Niketan College, Clinical Psychology is the much sought after discipline. Students from across India and even abroad opt either for BSc Psychology or MSc Clinical Psychology. The Dept has a Prajyoti Clinic with certified clinical psychologists under Rehabilitation Council of India. They often conduct suicide prevention classes and mental health campaigns in the college and also among nearby communities. Stress management sessions regularly conducted by them offer great solace for the teachers and students. The field has gained great relevance in the post-covid scenario. In areas of Mental Health and Family Welfare, the clinical psychologists render service in the Assessment, Diagnosis and Treatment of patients. The job prospects are also high for this discipline. Moreover, as psychological issues are skyrocketing, the diagnosis and treatment of mental health patients have become all the more important. Prajyoti Clinic is part of the Centre for Community Engagement.

Research Capability and Focus Area

Prajyoti Niketan College has a congenial environment for research and dissemination of knowledge through various activities. To inculcate research aptitude in undergraduate and graduate students, Research Ethics Committee introduces monthly seminar series which were delivered by research scholars. The Tinkering Lab at our College supports our students and they learn, develop, experiment with and conceptualise different themes and concepts. The Post Graduate and Research Dept of Psychology fosters research fervour in the minds of not only their students but also among students of other departments too. To inculcate scientific temper and research culture, they conduct research workshops both for the faculty and students of all depts. Teachers are also encouraged by the Management and the Principal to publish more papers in Scopus-indexed and UGC Care journals. The Management earnestly requests all faculty members to pursue their doctoral studies.

Academic Facilities

Well-furnished class rooms with sufficient furniture and smart boards are connected with public addressing system. Interactive panels are installed in almost all classes. A full fledged library caters to the academic and informational needs.
