About Us
The Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTAU), [originally established as Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University] under the A.P. Agricultural University Act, 1963, embarked its glorious journey on 12 June, 1964. Founded on the Land Grant Model of Kansas State University-Land Grant system. Dedicated to the Nation by the Hon’ble (Late) Prime Minister, Sri Lal Bahadur Shastri on March 20, 1965. Following the formation of Telangana State during 2014 it has evolved “The Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTAU).
Vision
o To evolve as a Centre of Excellence in agricultural education, research and extension innovation, dedicated to empowering farmers and rural communities for sustainable prosperity.
Mission
o To produce globally competitive human resources, generate innovative technologies, and develop effective outreach mechanisms to address contemporary agricultural challenges.
Mandate
o Train human resources needed for Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering & Technology, Community Science and allied sectors.
o Conduct basic and applied research to develop improved varieties and technologies for sustainable agricultural development.
o Promote on-farm research and technology assessment, refinement and transfer of knowledge through participatory approaches.
o Build partnerships and linkages with National / International Education/ Research / Developmental institutions, rural development sector and agro industries.
o Nurture innovations and entrepreneurship in agriculture and rural ecosystems through mentoring, piloting and facilitating access to market research and investment.
Area of Excellence
o The University offers Diploma, Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes including Doctoral programmes in the faculties of agriculture, Agricultural Engineering & Technology and community Science with 11 constituent colleges and 12 polytechnics.
o PJTAU introduced First of its kind a Post-Doctoral Academic Apprenticeship for just passed out Ph.D. Scholars in Teaching / Research for 2 years with a student fellowship /stipend.
o First University to introduced a RAWEP programme for students hands-on-training of farming practices at village

Research Capability and Focus Area
o Fifteen (15) Agricultural Research Stations, including three Regional Agricultural Research Stations (RARSs) representing three Agro-climatic zones conducts extensive research on cereals, millets, pulses, oilseeds, and commercial crops.
o The University has established 28 All India Coordinated Research Projects, 2 AINP and 5 GoI schemes supported by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Government of India, and Government of Telangana
Focus Area
o Development of high-yielding and climate-resilient crop varieties, sustainable farming practices, post-harvest technologies, and natural resource management.
o Leveraging advanced technologies, including drones, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT), to address critical agricultural challenges.
o Establishing comprehensive value chains for key crops to enhance farmer profitability and promote economic sustainability in the agricultural sector
