About Us
G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, is a prominent agricultural
university located in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand, India. Established in 1960, it was the first
agricultural university in India and has played a crucial role in the Green Revolution and
agricultural education in the country. Named after Govind Ballabh Pant, a freedom fighter
and the first Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, the university has been a pioneer in
agricultural research, education, and extension. GBPUA&T was established in collaboration
with the University of Illinois, USA, marking a significant Indo-American partnership in the
field of agriculture. The University offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral
programs in various fields such as Agriculture, Horticulture, Veterinary Sciences, Fisheries,
Forestry, Home Science, Basic Sciences, Engineering, and Agribusiness Management. The
university has made significant contributions to agricultural research, particularly in
developing high-yielding varieties of crops more than 350. GBPUA&T has collaborations
with various national and international institutions for research and academic exchange
programs. The University has received numerous prestigious awards at both national and
international levels, including the Sardar Patel ICAR Outstanding Institution Award. It has
secured the top position among agricultural universities. Additionally, the University has
been recognized as the top agriculture university in the country with reference to QS World
University Rankings.
The Campus appears impressive today with its well-tended fields, a network of roads, housing colonies, street lighting, a telephone exchange, hospitals, marketing centres, a water supply section, 6 primary schools and 3 secondary schools. The main campus lies in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand at 29 N latitude and 79 E longitude at an elevation of 243.8 m above the mean sea level.
