Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Agra, established on 1st July 1927, is one of North India's oldest and most prestigious academic institutions. With Hon’ble Mrs. Anandiben Patel as its Chancellor, the university stands for excellence, social responsibility, and progressive education. Its motto, “Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya”—“From darkness, lead me to light”—reflects its commitment to knowledge, justice, and truth. Initially covering parts of six states, the university now serves four districts in Uttar Pradesh: Agra, Mathura, Firozabad, and Mainpuri. Renamed in 1996 to honor Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, it has a rich legacy supported by visionary leaders like Sir William Skillbeck Martin and Rev. Canon A.W. Dev. Eminent alumni include Presidents Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma and Mr. Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and NSA Mr. Ajit Doval. Literary and scientific icons like Mr. Raghe Yadav, Dr. Nagendra, Prof. Narendra Singh Kapany, and Dr. Ganesh Prasad Pandey have further enriched its legacy. The university operates through four main campuses and hosts 14 government, 27 aided, and 540 self-financed affiliated colleges, offering quality education and residential facilities, including hostels for both male and female students.
Area of Excellence
In line with the National Education Policy 2020, the university, through 9 faculties and 43 teaching departments, provides excellence in education, research, and innovation in various programs such as Doctorate, Postgraduate, Graduate, and PG Diploma. Around 2,724 academic programs are being operated in the campus. Currently, 3 to 5 lakh students are studying in affiliated colleges, while about 6,000 students studying in residential premises.
