About Us
Sacred Heart College (Autonomous) started in 1951 is a first grade institution affiliated to Thiruvalluvar University, Tamil Nadu and is managed by fathers of Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB). The College has received the UGC recognition of Sections 2(f) and 12B. The University of Madras conferred the autonomous status in the year 1987 and the college is approved by AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) for its MBA and MCA programmes.
Owing to offering excellent education in the field of higher education, the College is accredited with A++ grade with CGPA of 3.53/4 by NAAC in its 5th cycle and secured 80th Place among the Colleges situated in India by NIRF in 2025. SHC was adjudged as the No. 1 college among all the colleges of Thiruvalluvar University, Tamil Nadu in the year 2023. With a student strength of 4632, for the past 7 decades, SHC stands as educational hub, attracting a diverse community of students offering them quality education and training to make them as intelligent and noble persons through transparency and clarity in education fostering holistic development through various academic and non-academic activities.

Area of Excellence
Sacred Heart College (SHC) offers a comprehensive variety of academic Programmes, encompassing 19 undergraduate and 15 postgraduate Programmes, 13 doctoral and 6 diploma Programmes. SHC is committed to academic excellence and has effective mechanisms to cater to the diverse learning needs of its students. SHC offers quality education through experiential, Participatory learning and Problem-solving methods. Social consciousness and a sense of responsibility is imparted through various club activities. SHC stands out to promote employability, entrepreneurship, and skill development besides offering mentorship, guidance and counseling support, fostering a supportive environment for students. Cultural and sports development are supported by well-equipped auditoriums, multipurpose playground and diverse indoor and outdoor sports facilities. Research Capability and Focus Area
SHC stands as a distinguished institution committed to research excellence through cutting-edge research. The Abdul Kalam Research Centre (AKRC) boasts state-of-the-art facilities and equipments, supporting faculty and Ph.D. scholars. The provision of individual research rooms, high-speed Wi-Fi (355 Mbps), and a technologically enriched library, fortified with anti-plagiarism software like Turnitin are available. Over the years, SHC has contributed over 2000 research articles, filled 13 patents, 7 research awards and numerous research grants to the tune of over 45 lakhs. The institution has in house research grants like Don Bosco Research Grant, Fr. Carreno Grant and Sacred Heart Fellowship to support research to faculty and students. SHC organizes workshops, webinars, and conferences to constantly update the academic community. Through the Sacred Heart Young Innovator Award, and Student Innovation Council, SHC actively fosters an environment conducive to innovative thinking.
Academic Facilities
SHC has 104 fully furnished classrooms with ICT facilities and smart boards. Besides this there are 43 advanced laboratories, 24 seminar halls, 531 computer systems, interactive boards and 41 Wi-Fi access points and excellent sports facilities.
