About Us
Tezpur University came into existence in 1994 by a special Act of the Parliament of India. Located near the beautiful town of Tezpur in the northeast Indian state of Assam, it is a central university and is unitary and residential in nature. Nestled in a 262- acre campus, one of the most beautiful in the country, TU has achieved certain distinctive heights in the national and international academic firmament and has become one of the cherished destinations for students, faculty, parents, and visitors. With almost 5000 students, 345 faculty members and 300 administrative and technical personnel, the university today is a hub of quality activities in higher education and research as much as a confluence of demographic and cultural diversity. Besides being conferred the Visitor’s Best University Award in 2016 among all the Central Universities of India. TU has been consistently featuring in various international rankings.
The University currently offers 78 academic programmes (UG, PG and PhD) through 27 departments under 4 important Schools: Engineering, Humanities & Social Sciences, Management Sciences, and Sciences. In addition, the University offers 7 programmes in the Distance and Online mode under its Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE). The academic programmes offered in the University have a distinct focus on Science, Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences, reflecting the very purpose and mandate of the University.
The university attracts students from different parts of India and foreign countries like Mauritius, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Egypt, Ethiopia, Lesotho, Zambia, Madagascar, Syria, Tanzania, and Thailand. Foreign students are admitted under various schemes of Govt. of India like ICCR, DASA, etc. This year, TU has introduced Computer Based Test (CBT) for admission into it to be conducted in various cities of the neighboring countries such as Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Thailand.
