National Board of Accreditation
The National Board of Accreditation was established by AICTE (All India Council of Technical Education) in order to evaluate the qualitative proficiency of different programs (across diploma graduate and postgraduate levels) offered by the educational institutes across disciplines of architecture, management, engineering and technology, and pharmacy. However, in 2010, the NBA became an autonomous and independent body. Its main objective is to ensure the quality of technical education provided through different professional and technical programs in Indian institutes. NBA carries out the assessment of technical institutions on a different parameter that may include but is not limited to objectives and institutional missions, governance and organization, infrastructure facilities, learning and teaching quality, curriculum, facilities such as library, laboratory, instrumentation, computer facilities, etc. The parameters for evaluation are decided or changed by the Executive Committee and General Council of the NBA.
An overview of main objectives of NBA include:
- Assessment and accreditation of technical education programmes.
- Encouraging excellence through the process of benchmarking. It determines whether the institutions are able to achieve their objectives and mission.
- Ensuring that the technical institutes are at par with the global standards and relevant to the market needs.
- Helping the technical education system become competent and provide capable human resources who in turn can contribute towards the growth and development of the nation.
