Global institutes, Amritsar has been awarded with the status of a nodal centre for the ‘Virtual Labs Project’ by IIT Delhi. This is the third nodal centre in Punjab that has been instituted by Ministry of Human Resource Development(MHRD), Government of India. Copter display marks R-day celebrations

In a fascinating show, students of the Electronics and Communication Department of Global Institutes demonstrated the antics of a "quad-copter" to mark the Republic Day celebrations. Similar to the contraption displayed in the film "Three Idiots", the copter was designed by Vaibhav Singh, Talwinder Singh, Varun Kumar, Rishabh Singh and Pankaj Kumar, all students of fourth year, under the guidance of Harmandeep Singh Sangha, assistant professor, ECE Department. The chopper was flagged off by chairman of the institute, Dr Baldev Singh Chandi, along with vice-chairman, Dr Akashdeep Singh. As many as 400 students of the institute witnessed the demonstration of the machine. It ... looked like a toy, but could lift weight upto 1.5 Kg. Explaining about the machine, Harmandeep said, "It was created to scale height upto 500 metres and cover a distance of 600 metre. The copter works with a remote control and uses brushless motors, fiber made propellers, electronic speed controller, gyro etc. Fitted with a camera, the copter can survey areas using a single person." He said the copter could be used in search and rescue operations with addition of night vision an infrared optics. It could locate areas ravaged by fire, flooding, landslides and snow slides. In emergency management, it could give situational awareness and damage assessment reports, he added.

Students build vehicle from scrap

A nine-member team of final year mechanical engineering students of Global Institutes created a 'wonder bike' from scrap. The vehicle was flagged off by chairman of the institute, Dr Baldev Singh Chandi, along with Vice Chairman Dr Akashdeep. The all terrain four-wheeler was maneuvered on sandy pit. Chandi said the bike was created under the institute's 'Gold finger' project. The group designed and fabricated the vehicle with parts collected from vehicles sold in the scrap market. The team used indigenised parts of Hero Karizma, Kerala auto-rickshaw, Bajaj Discover and Maruti 800. The basic structure of the vehicle was designed and fabricated from the Tata made 1/2 inch C class circular iron pipe. The heart of the vehicle is modified 223cc Hero Karizma engine attached to the in- house self-fabricated gear- box. Differential of Kerala auto- rickshaw was used. Modified sus ... pension of Maruti 800 car was used at the front and Bajaj Discover was used at the rear. Dr Akashdeep congratulated the team led by Harmanpreet Singh, Abhishek Soni, Agamjot Singh, Amandeep Singh, Bambam Kumar Jha, Bikramjit Singh, Hardeep Singh, Karanjeet Singh, Manoj Thakur along with their guide Prof Jatinder Bhalla from Department of Mechanical Engineering. Bhalla said "The bike is aesthetic, attractive, aerodynamically designed, besides fuel efficient. It can also be used for adventure sports." It was created over a period of six months, he added. Prof Bhalla said the complete working model of the vehicle was built within the resources available to them at High Performance Automobiles Center of Excellence of Global Institutes using the three-D AutoCAD software of CREO-2.0. The design and fabrication was done under the guidance of faculty of mechanical engineering.

Local Educationist takes up farm technology with Canadian minister.

During his visit to Canada, Global Institutes chairman, Dr BS Chandi, met Navdeep Singh Bains , Canadian Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and discussed farming practices based on technology that India could use as one of the largest agro-based economies of the world. Dr Chandi took up with Canadian minister the matter of innovative role of science and technology in agriculture in order to transform farming in India into a viable economic sector model, especially for farmers of Punjab, who are reling under debt. Advanced technological researches in the agro field for India, which urgently require optimal resources management, including water economy in farming, crop rotation and diversification, were also discussed. Chandi is on an education exchange trip to Canada. The minister said governments of both the countries need a relook at management to support converting diversified crops into cash crops by fixing prices referred to as minimum support price (MPS) in India. “Apart from this, better management of existing cash crops with methods to economies natural resources needs to be worked upon, “ he added. Dr Chandi urged Navdeep to take meaningful initiatives ... at the Canadian government level in order to develop a mechanism so that economic benefits could reach the grass root level, including the poorest of the poor of developing countries. “ The solution to majority of problems gripping society in India is in the mindset that resist change, This applies to a wide variety of segments of society, Turning the tide and making agriculture sector technologically sound will definitely improve lives of our farmers and generate jobs for youth, ‘ said Dr Chandi. ‘Smart wheelchair’, ‘baby incubator’ bag top positions at annual project exhibition of GIA

Furthering the initiative of ‘Make in India’ floated by the Prime Minister, as many as 241 BTech students displayed their projects at the ‘Annual Project Exhibition’ at Global Institutes Amritsar(GIA) in the Department of Management and Emerging Technologies. On the occasion, Dr Akashdeep Singh, vice-chairman, Global Institutes, Prof Rajesh Goel, director, GIA, Prof Neetu Gupta, Hod, (ECE), discussed the goal of their projects, encouraged students and selected the best of the projects which will feature in the upcoming ‘Global Institutes Library and Museum’ of the institute. The vice-chairman said, “The projects were judged on the basis of innovative quality, rarity, thoughtfulness, workability, ease of operation, longevity, aesthetics and accuracy.” In the Electronic Computer Engineering (ECE) Department, the first prize was shared between the innovative ‘Weather monitoring system’ and the ‘low-cost smart wheelchair’ followed by a ‘Baby incubator’ project that was adjudged the second position. The weather monitoring system project included a micro-controller-ATMEGA 32A interfaced with different sensors, including temperature sensor, humidity sensor, rain inten ... sity sensor for wind speed and direction and light intensity sensor leading to effect synchronized communication. Used for weather forecasting, it was created by a five-member team, including Kamalpreet kaur, Kiranjit Kaur, Gurbir Kaur, Jastinder Kaur and Gaganpreet Kaur and bagged the first position. The baby incubator project nurtures a child in the best possible environment for observation and care. The incubator included temperature-controlled environment, photo-therapy, a control valve for oxygen besides easy access ports for nursing care. The project was created by students Karanjit Singh, Jarnail Singh, Harmbir Singh and was adjudged the second place. In BTech’s, Information Technology (IT) Department, the first three positions were bagged by projects that included ‘Network and system security’,’Amgen Congress’ and ‘Go Safe’, respectively. Other projects of interest included ‘Automatic solar water filling plant’, ‘Anti-accident vehicle, coal mining alarm system’, ‘Ultrasonic distance sensor, ‘Automatic street-light power saving system’,’Ultrasonic distance sensor’, ‘Notes sharing’, ‘Spend smart’, ‘Easy bargain’, ‘Clever wallet’, ’Job portal and ‘Houzz’.

A State level work shop on virtual labs was organized by IIT Delhi and Global Institutes jointly at the latter’s campus here on Wednesday. City Prof Presents research paper in Int’l conference

Harmandeep Singh Sangha, Assistant professor at the Global Institute of Management and Emerging Technologies, here, presented a research paper in a conference on ‘Recent Trends in Computer Science and Electronics Engineering’ (RTCSE’17) in Denmark. An e Rickshaw that runs with the solar power

Student of Mechanical Engineering Department of Global Group of Institutes have successfully designed and fabricated solar-powered e –rickshaw. The Team led by Jobanpreet Singh ,Ankush kumar, Chetan Kumar, Karandeep Singh, Karamjit Singh, along with their guide Prof. Parminderjit Singh, said the vehicle is aesthetically attractive and aerodynamic ,besides being environment friendly. A major limitation of the existing system is that e –rickshaw s are generally charged during the night only and driver’s daily earnings is restricted by the range. After market research, they concluded that the standard e –rickshaw runs for 50-70 km in a day on completely charged four 110 AH factory fitted batteries. They also noted that it takes around eight hours to recharge the fully depleted batteries by connecting to power source and nearly 6-7 units of electricity are consumed for recharging the batteries, taking the annual consumption to around 2000 units. After initial R&D and extensive mathematical calculations, the students decided to remove the extensive roof of the e –rickshaw and replace it with four customized light weight and e ... fficient solar panels. To incorporate the same, various structural changes were done to the existing frame of e- rickshaw. The solar panels were connected to batteries via solar charge controller, which will manage the power going into the battery bank from the solar array. The cost of the project is Rs 17,800 and same can be recovered in year. Dr. Akashdeep Singh, Vice Chairman, Global Group of Institutes (GGI), while appreciating the efforts of the student and faculty, said the above project will reduce the carbon footprints by 1260 pounds annually per e –rickshaw. He opined that if the same is implemented by all e –rickshaws plying in the holy city, it will not only drastically reduce the dependence on thermally generated electricity but will also help the drivers earn more. Dr MS Saini , Director ,GGI, said the complete working modifications of the vehicle were done within the resources available to them at the High –Performance Automobiles, Center of Excellence of Global Institutes using the 3D AutoCAD Software of CREO 2.0.The design and fabrication was done under the guidance of faculty of Mechanical Engineering .

Irrespective of the pandemic upsetting the educational apparatus completely, Dr. Akashdeep Singh, Vice Chairman, Global Educational Institutes is positive of limping back to normalcy once the situation normalises. To catch that situation, his institution is ready to enter into joint ventures with the Foreign Universities through students and faculty exchange programmes. Already the impact of globalization was being felt on the education industry as more and more students were going overseas. So, they prefer admission to those courses that brighten their prospects of going abroad. Beginning from B.tech and MBA Courses with Faculty of 40 and 280 Students in 2008, the educational institution now boasts of 200 teacher and 2000 Students. On how the idea of Setting up an educational institution germinated, he recalled that during the course of doctorate, he had to conduct the surveys of management educational institutions in the state. he found that there was a big ... gap between the perceptions and expectations of students and parents from the institutions. And what was being actually delivered. To eliminate the gap, he decided to introduce the educational Industry. Earlier, he finished B.Tech. in mechanical engineering from Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana, and did MBA from Guru Nanak Dev University. Later, he taught business management at Punjab College of Teaching Education, Ludhiana, for a year. He is Happy to say that the maiden batch of B.Tech. managed to bag two gold medals, a feat which is still unbroken. Immediately shifting to online mode of education was a challenge which was deftly handled by specifically designed the curriculum accordingly, power point presentations were prepared which were mailed along with class notes and corresponding texts to students for their comprehension in the evening. Besides, a lot of webinars were held in which leading industrialists were invited to encourage students.
