Farook College, Calicut, was established in 1948 as a first grade college for the empowerment of socially and economically less privileged communities through education. This educational complex with its 12 institutions took the lead in transforming the social fabric of the region through the expansion of the secular education. Farook College today is the biggest residential postgraduate research institution in the state offering 21 undergraduate and 16 postgraduate programmes and 11 of the PG departments are recognized research centers. The college is modeled on residential pattern running 8 hostels -4 for boys and 4 for girls. The college concentrates especially on girls’ education and more than 70% of students are girls. Presently more than 3300 students are on the roll.

..Farook College is re-accredited A+ grade by NAAC and identified by the UGC as a College with Potential for Excellence. The Autonomous status received in 2015 is yet another milestone of the college.

.The Department of English has a unique distinction of being recognized as the Research department ever since 1971. They have produced 26 PhDs so far. The Arabic department is also quite industrious and it has produced several PhDs. Faculty are recipients of several major and minor research projects funded by eminent organizations and agencies.
Farook College (Autonomous) is the biggest Post Graduate Institution under the Calicut University offering instruction in 16 PG & 21 UG programmes. Eleven departments offer PhD programmes.
College Library houses 89,918 Books, 10,00,000 e-books, 168 printed journals, 10000 online Journals, and caters to the visually challenged students with its Digital Library.
