About Us
Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr.Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology (Deemed to be University), “A Place to Progress and Prosper”, was started as an Engineering college in 1997 under the Trust founded by the Educational-Philanthropic Personalities- Dr.R.Rangarajan and Dr.Sagunthala Rangarajan, who are the Founder President and Foundress respectively now. Since academic year 2015-16, the Institution Deemed to be University entirely revamped its academic regulations of the programmes offered under various disciplines in-line with the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) with academic flexibilities like (i) Course Choice within the program (ii) Semester Choice (iii) Faculty Choice (iv) Inter-program/ Department/ School level course choice (v) Inter-Institute level course choice and (vi) MOOC course choice. Since 2012, all the programmes have been following Outcome-Based Education (OBE), which primarily focuses on knowledge, skill and attitude of the graduates. As curriculum and detailed syllabi are the pivotal components of the educational process, all the programmes design their curriculum by inviting relevant stakeholders from industries, academia, research organizations etc., The curriculum and syllabi certainly fulfil the guidelines stipulated by the regulatory bodies and the standards specified by the respective international professional societies such as IEEE, ISA, ASME, ASCE, ACM etc., First member from India to join Conceive- Design- Implement- Operate (CDIO) worldwide initiative in 2016; an innovative curricular framework for Engineering and Technology programmes founded by MIT -USA and Chalmers University of Technology –Sweden evolving over the period of two decades with an aim to produce the next generation engineers with UNESCO’s following: Learning to know: Disciplinary Knowledge and Reasoning, Learning to be: Personal and Professional Skills, Learning to live together: Interpersonal Skills, Learning to do: CDIO skills in the enterprise, societal and environmental context. International & National Recognitions: NAAC ‘A’ Grade (CGPA 3.17) Accreditation, NBA tier I Accreditation, NIRF India Rankings 2017 (58 in Engineering and 65 in University), NIRF India Rankings 2018 (77 in Engineering), 43rd position in Higher Education Asia Ranking 2017, 74th position in THE World Young University Ranking 2017 and India No 1 in Scimago Institutions Ranking 2017 assure the benchmarking of curriculum, pedagogy and learning outcome measurement nationally/ internationally. Industries like TCS, WIPRO, EMC2, KPIT, ALCATAL, INFOSYS, LUCENT, IGATE, etc., and professional bodies like ARAI, CDAC, TAFE, FCRI, IRT, GARC / NATRIP etc., have been involving in the above said various phases of curricular activities. About 20-30% of the course delivery is made by the industry personnel as given below and also they involved in curriculum/ course design and development. 100% of the students undergo In-Plant Training, 80% of UG Students doing their Project work/ Internships at Industries, about 470(150 minimum per year) expect lectures as a part of the credit course were delivered by industry persons in last three years, 10 PG Programme & 1 UG programme in Collaboration with Industries, 5 Centre of Excellence with the Support of Industries/ Research Institute, Joint Research & Consultancy projects with Industries in India & Foreign Country (Korea, France, Canada etc), Developing Ebike with Novelty in Motor technology in Collaboration with the Industry from France ensure the strong Industry-Academia relationship. About 200 students were deputed for one or two semesters abroad during the last four years. Students got the opportunity to work at highly ranked institutions such as Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), National Taiwan University (Taiwan), Moscow Aviation Institute (Russia), University Sains Malaysia (Malaysia) etc., More than 40 students were completely funded by the partner/host Institution. The institution also encourages the students with partial funding support. More than 70 students were deputed for their Project Work / Internship.
